This is a wistful little autumn song. I remember enjoying a good wistful tune as a child, like "Puff, the Magic Dragon" or "Go Tell Aunt Rhody," so I've written a number of them myself, like The Geese Song, Songbird and One Little Leaf. Amidst the dancing and participatory sing-alongs at my concerts, I like to throw in a couple like this now and then, and kids and families have always latched on to these. A preschool teacher once told me she thought people underestimate the emotional range of children, and songs like this allow them to explore their feelings about perhaps the changing seasons or aging grandparents.
